Corrigendum to “Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Patients with Heart Failure: New Trends in Therapy”

چکیده
Heart failure (HF) is a growing health problem which paradoxically results from the advances in the treatment of etiologically related diseases (especially coronary artery disease). HF is commonly accompanied by sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), which may directly exacerbate the clinical manifestations of cardiovascular disease and confers a poorer prognosis. Obstructive sleep apnoea predominates in mild forms while central sleep apnoea in more severe forms of heart failure. Identification of SDB in patients with HF is important, as its effective treatment may result in notable clinical benefits to the patients. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard in the management of SDB. The treatments for central breathing disorders include CPAP, bilevel positive airway pressure (BPAP), and adaptive servoventilation (ASV), with the latter being the most modern method of treatment for the Cheyne-Stokes respiration and involving ventilation support with a variable synchronisation dependent on changes in airflow through the respiratory tract and on the patient's respiratory rate. ASV exerts the most favourable effect on long-term prognosis. In this paper, we review the current state of knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of SDB with a particular emphasis on the latest methods of treatment.

Relationship between sleep disorders and erectile dysfunction, depression and quality of life in male patients with systolic heart failure
Background and Purpose: Identification of the effects of sleep disturbances on the quality of life could result in proper treatment of patients with heart failure. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep disorders and erectile dysfunction, depression and quality of life in male patients with systolic heart failure. Methods: This correlational study was conducted on 100...
متن کاملSleep‐disordered breathing in heart failure: facts and numbers
Sleep-disordered breathing has a high prevalence in the general population, but is especially prominent in patients with heart failure (HF). HF and sleep-disordered breathing share a bidirectional relationship, with sleep-disordered breathing being both cause and effect of poor cardiac functioning. The high inter-individual variability of symptom presentation can impede the clinical diagnostic ...
متن کاملImpact of heart failure on quality of sleep.
Chronic heart failure is an important health problem associated with a high mortality and morbidity. Appropriate treatment reduces mortality and leads to improved exercise tolerance but many patients report poor quality of sleep. Sleep studies of patients with heart failure suggest that sleep disordered breathing is experienced in 50% of patients and is a powerful predictor of poor prognosis. S...

This study was conducted to investigate the probability of obstructive sleep apnea in men with heart failure and some related factors. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 100 male patients with systolic heart failure selected throu...
متن کاملThe current prevalence of sleep disordered breathing in congestive heart failure patients treated with beta-blockers.
STUDY OBJECTIVES Although sleep disordered breathing is thought to be common in patients with systolic heart failure, prior studies are difficult to interpret due to a variety of factors including small sample sizes, referral bias to sleep laboratories among participants, lack of modern medical therapy for congestive heart failure, and the failure to use modern techniques to assess breathing su...
